Get Wisdom. Sounds kinda mystical and kungfooie, sounds good right? It’s appealing, but it is a biblical concept and not one of the Tao Chi. “Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.” Whose words are being spoken of here? The words of man? Words of the preacher? Who? Hopefully it’s obvious; God is talking here. This is the Word of God from Proverbs 4:5.

Wisdom is witnessed in God’s Word as something that we need to ‘get’.  It is more precious than jewels and incomparable with all that we might desire, (Prov 8:11). “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Prov 1:7). Wisdom is also the instrument by which the earth was even founded — “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens,” (Prov 3:19).

Proverbs 8:22–31 also personifies wisdom demonstrating how the Lord founded the earth,The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. 23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, 26 before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. 27 When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, 31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.”

Scripture describes wisdom in various ways. James 1:5 even teaches that if we lack wisdom that God will give it to us if we ask, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” With wisdom being touted as such a great thing our conclusion is going to be simple; get wisdom.
